Two more BC politicians endorse Peggy Nash ahead of final debate

Victoria / 9 March 2012 – Two more members of British Columbia’s legislature have declared support for Peggy Nash (MP Parkdale—High Park) in her bid to lead the NDP.

Shane Simpson, MLA for Vancouver-Hastings since 2005, is a prominent community activist, serves as the NDP critic for housing and social development, and is the current caucus chair.

Spencer Chandra Herbert, MLA for Vancouver-West End, is a noted LGBT activist and the youngest member of the provincial legislature. Chandra Herbert serves as NDP critic for tourism and the arts.

Impressed by Nash’s grasp of finance and push for an innovative economy, Chandra Herbert said, “Peggy is a fierce fighter when she needs to be, and a consensus builder when that’s required to get a job done.”

Simpson said, “I’ve been following all candidates closely and I am confident Peggy is the one who can most effectively ramp up our party’s momentum to 2015.”

Said Nash of these endorsements: “I thank Spencer and Shane for putting their faith in my leadership. To have their energy on my campaign on the West Coast is an honour,” said Nash.
