Nova Scotia MLAs back Peggy Nash for NDP leadership

Halifax / January 30, 2012 – Following Sunday’s NDP leadership debate in Halifax, three Nova Scotia MLAs have thrown their support behind Peggy Nash.

MLAs Pam Birdsall (Lunenburg), Vicki Conrad (Queens), and Cabinet Minister Marilyn More (Dartmouth South – Portland Valley) have endorsed Nash, MP (Parkdale-High Park) as their choice to lead Canada’s New Democrats.

“I am endorsing Peggy Nash as leader of the federal NDP because I believe that she has everything it takes to be a strong vibrant leader, with the unique skill of being a consensus builder,” said Birdsall. “She is just what we need as leader of the Official Opposition and our next Prime Minister.”

“I’m thrilled and honoured to have their support,” said Nash. “They have built our party to new heights in Nova Scotia, and I intend to work with them to repeat that success across the country.”

Nash has also received the endorsement of former provincial and federal leader, Alexa McDonough.
