NDP MP Denise Savoie endorses Peggy Nash for leadership
Victoria / Dec 5, 2011 — NDP MP Denise Savoie (Victoria) announced her support today for MP Peggy Nash in her campaign to lead Canada’s New Democrats.
“I’ve seen Peggy first hand in the House of Commons standing up for strong progressive values; she has a clear vision for a more equal and just Canada and she has the strength to lead us in that direction,” said Savoie. “She has the knowledge as a community activist to lead and grow our party and the proven experience on economic issues to take the NDP into the next election.”
Savoie has served as the Member of Parliament for Victoria since 2006 and is Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons.
Savoie is the second BC MP to endorse Nash in her leadership bid, following Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca MP Randall Garrison.
Nash thanked Savoie for her endorsement. “Denise has been an excellent member of our caucus and I’m thrilled to have her endorsement. We’ve worked together on many issues important to Canadians especially our shared interest in developing green transportation alternatives that are good for the environment and the economy.”
