Nash Focuses on BC Jobs and Economic Growth
Vancouver / Nov 1, 2011 – Peggy Nash brought her cross-country leadership tour to Vancouver pledging to make it clear to British Columbians that she has the experience required to strengthen the BC economy.
“British Columbians know the NDP has its heart in the right place” said Nash. “I can make it clear we can manage the economy.”
Jack Layton appointed Ms. Nash Shadow Finance Minister after his May 2, 2011 breakthrough election. She was appointed Industry Critic after the 2006 election. Ms. Nash has 25 years of private sector economic experience negotiating with CEOs from some of the biggest companies in Canada and globally.
“I know how hard British Columbians work for each dollar – they want us to stretch every tax dollar as far as it will go.”
As NDP Finance Critic, Ms. Nash has criticized secret intergovernmental tax deals that so recently infuriated British Columbians. “Sales taxes hit lowest-income earners hardest. We need more tax fairness, not less,” said Ms. Nash.
Ms. Nash, who is fluent in French, arrived in Vancouver after a weekend drumming up support in Montreal. “Progressive Quebecers and all Canadians have the same preoccupations – the economy, the environment, and social justice. I will bring a united focus on prosperity for future generations.”
